If you ask about what the most important furniture of your office then desk and chair are the frequently answer. Well, desks are available in a wide range of types and styles. These variety types can be based on the shape, design, color, material, etc! The ones that come with conventional design usually have rectangular or square shapes! Today, we can also find the ones with more attractive styles, like l-shaped desks, u-shaped desks, or equipped with hutch design. Like other furniture, the new generation of them is generated due to the new requirement of this modern living. However, they are important part of human civilization and therefore have a long history. There are a lot of types and styles of classic desks all around the world, ranging the newer types to hundreds of years old. Let’s explore top five of them below!

(1) Roll top desks! They are classic furniture from 19th decade but still can be found not too difficultly in your local furniture stores, especially one that sell antique furniture. They have some modern features as well as like modern desks, such as cubbies on top and drawers that are placed in the both sides. One unique feature is the roll down cover as well as like the name implies that so useful to hide and make any items or stuffs or work area to be invisible. Other type that has similar design with roll top desks is tambour desks, but there are two slide-open-doors, not a single roll down cover.

(2) Armoire, it is classic desk which usually has a large cabinet feature. This feature is not only function for storage option but also helpful to resemble a large armoire. Other feature is two large slide-doors that usually along the sides of armoire both slide smoothly. Today, we can find some computer desks that adapt the style of this armoire, which usually also equipped with additional features to support modern office requirements of this modern living, such as small file drawers, cubbies & shelves that are located upper or lower (for CPU of computer) of the sides.

(3) Trestle, it can be categorized as the simple desk that only has two small drawers that are located underneath a flat top surface for writing. Furthermore, it also has two wide legs with 2 feet at base. For better support, it is also usually designed with a cross bar to attach two legs together more tightly. And today, this type is usually familiar used for a larger dining table with trestle style.

(4) Other one that comes with simple design is bureau-a-gradin, which usually has two simple drawers, similar like trestle but has four legs that are designed with standard size (relatively smaller if compared to two legs of trestle). And for writing requirement, it has top desk with pigeon holes along the back.

(5) Bargueno styles, they are also familiar called as vargueno desks, which around 15th century, they were increasingly popular at the first time, particularly in Spain (Renaissance). Moreover, they were also popular on a table top. One unique feature is the portable mechanism that so helpful to allow users move them more easily. There are a lot of people say that they were one of the early portable desk models. Other unique feature is the top of a fall front desk that can be reassembled not too difficultly. Like other pieces of classic furniture, they were typically constructed of wooden materials but also used iron material for carrying handles on the sides.
