Well, are you looking for a unique eastern decorating style that will allow you to optimize the attractive styles of textures, furnishings, and even colors that finally the peaceful and uncluttered space will be created? There are available many choices to realize this desire and Japanese interior design is one of great ideas to consider. As well we know, the original Japanese decorations that we usually see in the Japanese homes always prioritize the uncluttered clean look. Sometimes this is the main reason why we more often find Japanese rooms seem empty and more simply, particularly if we compare to the rooms that adopt the western styles.

The Japanese buildings are usually constructed with natural materials. The building itself is usually the priority concern to play the decoration. This is so different if we compare to western homes which usually add many items to decorate the western room interior. So, it is reasonable if we say eastern Japanese interior design tends to be dominated by the minimalist concept. On other hand, we can also find the ones that have seasonal decorations and traditional eastern furniture to add the personal touches, particularly in regard to the artwork. Perhaps you will also find shoji screens, tokonoma alcove (or usually familiar known as fireplace mantle for western version), futon (or bed for western version) which usually also become the unique characteristic of Japanese home interior.

Below are the other familiar issues and simple suggestions to achieve ‘Japanese interior styles’:

  1. Perhaps you are still not familiar about ‘tatami mats’! They are usually used for Japanese traditional flooring. They usually have the standard size around 35 x 47 inches. And approximately 6 to 8 inch mat arrangements for floor plans. The other option, especially if you have adequate fund, you can redesign the older tile flooring by highly polished bamboo. This is the best natural concept that can make your foot more comfortable.
  2. Chose the neutral colors (white is so recommended) to paint the wall. This is simple suggestion but so helpful to add the orderliness element which is the key and unique characteristic of the Japanese interior (like written before).
  3. Once again, make the room as uncluttered as possible. Therefore, minimize the room from the items or pieces of furniture that are not actually needed. Remember; peacefulness and balance concept cannot be realized for the rooms that are full or too crowded with too many items.
  4. Bring the nature concept into your lovely space! There are many ideas to create the naturally atmosphere. You can place some plants and a pretty fountain to add the authentic traditional Japanese environment.
  5. Consider also the major focal points! It is better to invite one of those points into your space, especially the center of the room. An example; you can decorate the wall with tatami-mat or you can also use red lacquer to paint the wall (one pillar).
  6. The last, once again Japanese interior design will be better with the simply concept ‘~less is more~’. Therefore always keep in mind to use single plant, single piece idea and even single floor mat concept. And on other hand, as possible, please avoid using two or more that usually will require the elaborate concept.
