Well, drawing desk can be categorized as the antique furniture. It was usually found in library and office rooms of certain rich groups in the beginning of 80’ era. Its original version was designed in the large size, particularly before the industrial revolution. In that era, it was produced with simply design with minimize feature with wood and brass as the main materials to make it looks stylish. The other familiar name of it during 80’s is the mechanical desks. Therefore, some addition accessories were added, such as; notches, basic gears, and ratchets, etc. On other hand, it was redesigned in order to looks more extensively and could be used more varied, after the industrial evolution.

And today, drawing desks are familiar used by artists, engineers, fashion or graphic designers, draftsmen, etc which are fundamentally still based on the original design of the desk models as they were in the beginning of 80-90’s era. Their frame is now mostly made from steel (laminated with fiberboard) that promises much more backbone, particularly if we compare to oak frame (the previous version). Overall, they are now designed more stylish and more strength that basically purposed to respond the modern requirements in modern lifestyle. Their popularity is not decrease due to the dominant function of computer unit to draw a design digitally. There are still many people from different profession (like mentioned in the first sentence of this paragraph) who feel more enjoyable to use paper and pen than computer’s software.

Like their traditional versions, the modern drafting desks typically have the large surface (so helpful to accommodate the large size of drawing activities), the flat worktop is usually attached to the peak of frame in order to make it can be adjusted dynamically, although it also can be set horizontally. They are so functional and can be combined with the other drafting equipments like; protractor, set-squares, etc.

The large drawing space that they can provide (not-practical on the most standard tables) is their best feature. The other benefit, you also can get the adequate working space to sketch-out your initial ideas. Some of them are now also equipped with portable feature or usually called as portable drawing board. It is designed effectively and portably which can be storage easily without requiring the permanent space option to set up.

Overall, the modern drawing desks are designed more compatibly and easier to be operated. If you are not satisfied to the performance of the standard design of worktops, there are now available some that come with the split top mechanism. This mechanism allows user to set two different sections at the same time, one is tilted at certain angle to work on and at the same time user also can set the different section which can be laid flat (usually useful to provide space for paper and other drawing equipments).

The other features that are purposed to give the optimal comfortable service are electric motor that so useful to make the adjustment set up for board becomes more easily and comfortably, and pencil drawer feature that designed to store stationery easier and neatly. There are available some popular manufactures or brands of them, and usually the price tags depend on the size, feature, and material quality.
